About Elk
In northern Spokane County, Elk is an unincorporated rural community. Prior to reverting to the county, it was once incorporated. With recent renovations, it contains an Elementary School and is now a residence. At least two churches, a cemetery, a VFW hall, a post office, a fire station, the newspaper office for the Elk Sentential and a number of residences are also a part of the local area.
Elk Settler’s Day, is annually designated on a weekend in June, usually father’s day weekend, by the community of Elk. The event, usually called Elk Day, is full of fun, food, and music. The festivities include crowning of the Elk days royalty, a parade, and continuous live music throughout the weekend, merchandise booths, and food, all held in downtown Elk at Elk park. Often there is also a dance at the VFW.
Hosting a number of other events, Elk includes an Easter egg hunt, chili-chowder cook-off, Halloween party, Christmas tree lighting, and almost weekly live music and dances at VFW, mostly featuring local acts such as the band Schmoe.
